Call Waiting was the season opening episode for Season 9 of Roseanne, and also the 199th overall series episode. It was written by Drew Ogier and Allan Stephan, and was directed by Mark K. Samuels. It originally aired on ABC on September 17, 1996.
Summary[]
In the first episode of the ninth and final season of Roseanne, the Conners are separated after the big fight the end of season eight. Roseanne just sits around watching TV at Jackie's house while, back at home, Dan spends his time fixing household items.

Regretting breaking the rules and fighting with Roseanne, Dan fixes the house after the huge fight and leaves a ton of messages on Jackie's answering machine. Roseanne finds herself in front of Jackie's TV, watching notable past sitcoms like That Girl, I Dream of Jeannie, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show (Cameo appearance by Ed Asner on the latter show), eventually finding her and Dan playing the roles of Ann & Don, Mary and Lou Grant, and Jeannie and Tony. Later, Jackie convinces Roseanne that Dan and Roseanne were meant for each other and Roseanne quietly returns home. She and Dan question if they can repair their marriage, but finally agree that they are meant. Dan promises to take better care of himself, and the two kiss. Meanwhile Jackie is alone with Andy and Jerry, and makes a shocking discovery about her lottery ticket after watching the lottery drawings on TV.

Trivia[]
- An updated tile sequence debuts with a new version of the theme song, and lyrics added. This time, it shows a picture frame of morphing images of the show's characters. For this episode only, Roseanne's full name is used.
- Lecy Goranson (Becky Conner) has now been removed from the title sequence for the second time and has been replaced by Sarah Chalke again. She'll be added to the title sequence yet again in Season 10. This is the first time since Season 7 that Sarah Chalke has been credited on the title sequence.
- Despite being credited, Sarah Chalke (Becky Conner) does not appear.
