Crystal Conner (née Anderson) was one of Roseanne and Jackie's best friends who began dating, then married Dan's father, Ed. The part of Crystal is played by Natalie West.
Biography[]
Crystal Conner is the good-hearted, childhood friend of Roseanne and Jackie. She is a self-described "doormat" when it comes to men. She speaks with a southern accent despite having grown up in Lanford. She always said she got the accent from her father who was from Arkansas.
Crystal grew up in Lanford, IL She was the childhood friend of Jackie and Roseanne. When she was 16, her mother kicked her out of the house and forced her to move in with her Aunt Ina.
She met her first husband Rusty when she was 17 and divorced at 18. Rusty ended up cutting their trailer in half. She then married a man named Travis and divorced him shortly after. She thought she met the man of her dreams when she met Sonny Anderson. They fell in love and they got married. Sonny was a construction worker when they married. While Crystal was pregnant, Sonny was out working on the Monument Street Bridge when he slipped off the bridge and fell into one of the pillars as the concrete was being poured. For the longest time, Crystal grieved the death of Sonny for several years and couldn't look past it. Crystal ended up giving birth to her son and named him Lonnie.
Crystal worked at Wellman Plastics Factory with Roseanne, Jackie, Sylvia, and Vonda. She was part of the walkout with Roseanne and a few other friends. She became a successful cosmetics saleswoman.
Crystal married three more times before she ended up marrying Dan's father Ed Conner (against Dan's strong disapproval) because Ed knew Crystal since she was 12-years-old. She has two more children with Ed named Ed Jr. and Angela. Their marriage perceived to be happy, with Ed's absences creating most of the conflict. Crystal and Ed were married all the way up to Ed's death.
21 years later, she had remained good friends with Roseanne and Jackie. She recently retired from her job as a waitress at a casino and given her former job to Darlene. Retirement got too boring for her and she later returns to working as a waitress at the casino.
A regular cast-member for Season 3 and Season 4, Crystal appears as an occasional recurring character before and afterwards. Her appearances reduce drastically after Season 5, where she only appears in two episodes from Season 6 and one episode from Season 8. Crystal would later return in Season 10 for the revival and make occasional appearances in the spin-off The Conners.
When Roseanne passed away, Crystal took her death very hard. She actually had a very hard time accepting Dan's new love Louise Goldufski.
Trivia[]
In the episode, Second Time Around, Crystal mentions that her grandmother’s name was Ruby and her mother was named Amber as a part of a family tradition. A tradition Crystal wanted to stop.
