Marjorie "Jackie" Goldufski (née Harris; born September 14, 1956) is played by Laurie Metcalf on the series. She is the younger sister of Roseanne Conner by three years, the sister-in-law to Dan Conner, and the loving and caring aunt to Becky Healy, Darlene Olinsky, D.J. Conner, and Jerry Garcia Conner.
Biography[]
Marjorie "Jackie" Goldufski (née Harris) was born and raised on September 14, 1956 to Beverly Harris (née Schrift) and Al Harris. She has one older sibling Roseanne Conner.
She is a warm and caring person, but is also neurotic, a trait which only grows more.
When Roseanne and Jackie were little kids, Roseanne could never pronounce her sister's name right and always called her "My Jackie" until she just became Jackie.
As Jackie grows up, she reveals that she had many relationships and blames the reason for her failed relationships on the physical, emotional, and verbal abuse on her father. She revealed that from her teenage years to her early adult years, she had many relationships (3 men a year for 20 years). She attended Lanford High School with Roseanne and Dan. She never went to college.
She had many boyfriends that included Ziggy Walsh, Booker Brooks (one of her bosses at Wellman Plastics), Gary Hall, Fisher (who was physically abusive), and Fred (her husband, whom she married, then later divorced and as a son with).
In season 6 Labor Day, Jackie finds out she's pregnant from a one-night-stand. In season 7 Husbands and Wives, Jackie and Fred get married after he decided to sue Jackie for the custody of their unborn child.
Throughout the series, Jackie worked at several jobs:
- Wellman Plastics with Roseanne with whom she walked out.
- A police officer during which she injured and quit rather than being forced to take a desk job.
- An actress/clerk at the local community theatre.
- A spray girl in the cosmetic department of Rodbell's Department Store.
- A truck driver which she later quits
- Co-owner of the Lanford Lunchbox with Roseanne, Nancy Thomas (née Barlett), Beverly Harris, and later Leon Carp. During her time as a truck driver, she bought a "loose-meat" sandwich, which led to her her and Roseanne deciding to open the restaurant.
- Painting hobby
- Life Coach
- E-Coach
It's revealed in the final episode of the series that rather than their mother being a lesbian, it was Jackie. Roseanne simply wrote her sister having the long string of boyfriends because she could always picture Jackie being with a man. However, it's later revealed in Season 10 that this fact was part of the book that Roseanne was writing and not actually true. She currently lives by herself without her son Andy. She later adopts a dog with the intentions of giving it to Becky after she buys a house. She had a falling out with Roseanne over the 2016 Presidential Election.
After her mom Beverly is kicked out of her nursing home, she is forced to live with Jackie. Although Jackie is very against the idea at first, they later overcome their issues and try to get along. After Roseanne's death, Jackie is left confused and unsure of herself on how to include herself within the Conner family. Dan assures her she's always welcomed just as she was when Roseanne was alive.
In 2019, Jackie actively pursues The Lunch Box, which had been leased to a Chinese restaurant after Roseanne lost interest in the Tavern Sandwich place. This left Beverly in charge entirely, and secretly ran the place into the ground. After the fed-up Chinese left, Beverly decided to give her estate to Darlene. When Dan decided to encourage Jackie, she eventually won management of The Lunch Box and created a new menu for it again. Becky joins her, still working at Casita Bonita as well, and they have occasional disagreements.
In 2020, Jackie starts painting. She brings in large annoying paintings to display in at the Lunch Box, which is exactly what Beverly did in 1992.
Later in 2023, she lets her great-niece Harris Conner Healy make all the important decisions regarding The Lunch Box.
