Roseanne Conner (née Harris) born November 3, 1952–September 25, 2018, was played by the series' star, Roseanne Barr. Roseanne, in a take-off of her stand-up comedic persona and presumed real-life persona, is a bossy, loud, caustic, overweight and dominant woman who appears as the main protagonist of the sitcom. She frequently meddles and tries to control the lives of her husband, daughters, sons, sister and friends. Despite her dominating nature, Roseanne is a loving mother who works hard and makes as much time for her kids as possible and deeply cares for her friends and sister, Jackie.

About Roseanne

Roseanne and her sister, Jackie Harris, are children of Al and Beverly Harris. Her maternal grandmother is simply known as Nana Mary. She is married to Dan Conner, and has four children - Becky Conner, Darlene Conner, D.J. Conner and Jerry Conner (who was born later in the show). Later on she has three grandchildren - Harris Healy, Mark Healy II and Mary Conner.

She, like her family, deals with the many hardships of poverty, weight and domestic troubles with humor. Roseanne has always had troubles with weight; it inspired an episode in which she and Dan try hard to lose weight. She works at the Wellman Plastics factory at the beginning of the show's run and quits that job after a conflict with the new egotistical domineering boss, Mr. Faber. She leads a walkout that includes most of her friends. She has several periods of unemployment and holds jobs as a fast-food employee, a telemarketer, a bartender and a shampoo woman/hair sweeper at a beauty salon. Subsequently, she works for several years as a waitress in the luncheonette at Rodbell's department store (much to the chagrin of daughters Becky and Darlene, who regularly hang out there) before co-owning her own restaurant, the Lanford Lunch Box, from 1992 to sometime before 2018. She formerly worked as a Uber Driver.

Due to a bad knee, she begun an addiction to pain killers, although surgery to fix her knee seemed too expensive, they were later granted the necessary money from the government. However, Shortly after having knee surgery she died after accidentally overdosing on an opioid drug, leaving Dan, Jackie and the rest of the family devastated.

Roseanne managed to appear in every single episode of Roseanne. However, in "Single Married Female" from Season 7, she only appears in the closing tag scene.
