Yard Sale, Phone Fail, And a College Betrayal is the eighth episode of Season 4 of The Conners, also the 59th episode overall.
Summary[]
As Louise starts to move into the Conner's home, Dan decides to sell the furniture set he bought for Roseanne when they were first married. However, he soon finds parting with the furniture - and old memories - harder than he thought it would be.
Plot[]
In attempts to please Nick, The Conner Family get a Permanent Christmas Tree, eating his food, gently guiding advice to people instead of interfereing, and learning how to live without Dangerous Technology. Dan unintentionally does the complete opposite. He believes that a husband must prevent his wife from worrying, even if it means keeping secrets bottled up, and stress internalized.
In-Depth[]
Christmas is near. The Conner Family, tired of chopping down trees, decide a permanent fixture professionally made from mostly Beer Cans.
Nick stops by unscheduled since he does not want to use a telephone. When he leaves, Jackie immediately warns Darlene that he is up to no good. Even Dan tells Darlene to reconsider.
They are in the bedroom moving the old furniture out. Louise does not know that Dan needs to sell it. He talks about what happened the first time. He ordered it in a Montgomery Ward catalog for the entire house. He did not want to bother Roseanne just as he does not want to bother Louise. He comments about how sturdy the furniture is and how long it lasted. Jackie says that Neville wants the mattress.
Becky sees Harris taking food from the pantry and listens as Harris tells her about being thrown out. Harris is livid about Becky taking in a girl that is an exact resemblance. Isabella has chosen the wrong path in life and gets to have every thing handed to her. Of course she does not appreciate any of it. She says she wants her G.E.D. without needing to do any thing about it. Isabella wants Becky to let her cheat. Becky sees things in Isabella that do not exist. However, Isabella says that her being pregnant happened at the library while attempting to shape up.
Darlene gives a smart phone for Nick. He hates the Westernization of his culture so they talk about why she went out of her way to give her a silly device. He challenges her to go without access to a smart phone for a while.
Isabella was out partying and did not even study at the library. She did apologize. If Becky continues to waste so much energy on Isabella, Becky is certainly going to flunk. She walks out quietly and then slams the door loudly so her daughter can wake up. Isabella is forced to take care of her.
Darlene is so addicted to Smart Phones, and needs to be in a relationship at all tines, that she ends up destroying a toaster. D.J. and Jackie insist that Dan not have the Yard Sale. There is no way he can make any money with Yard Sales so it is a complete waste of time for him to continue. Jackie tries to repair the toaster while continuing to scold Dan.
Dan has his ongoing Yard Sale. Jackie reminds him that Dan has absolutely no idea how to negotiate, saying one time he wagered D.J. in his card games. A customer approaches. Dan wants to sell it for tons of money and fast. The customer is concerned about being scammed. The two clearly are not negotiating. Dan wants to kill the man. Jackie leaves to post an advertisement.
Darlene tells Nick about Ben. He is pleased that his plan for Darlene worked successfully. Nick also says that he will keep his smart phone if Darlene promises to reduce her time on smart phones.
Jackie is on a roll in the kitchen. Becky walks in, angry for being up all night. She tells Becky to slow down or even better to stop trying to help other people. Even if Becky is successful mentor, it is not worth it. That is one reason why Jackie stopped being a Life Coach.
Dan has started a fire and begins incinerating his furniture. He explains why Louise must never find out. Unfortunately, it turns out that Dan lost his patience. A different customer read an advertisement and offered to pay the asking price. Since Dan has not calmed down, he asks the new customer to help him raid Neville.
